Lockdown Community Orchestra Spring 2021

Picture
Take part in our special DASP Music Community Lockdown Orchestra project.  If you are a young person, teacher, parent or other member of the DASP community, you are invited to get involved!
Our aim is to create a massed virtual orchestra this term, to record Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King.  There are parts for all levels of ability and a whole variety of instruments.  We will be using the fantastic resources created by BBC Ten Pieces, so please have a look at the parts, choose the one you'd like to play and get involved!

How to get involved:

1. Click on this link to take you to the BBC Ten Pieces page.  Here you will find loads of information about Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King, plus at the bottom of the page are all of the parts of varying levels of ability for different instruments.  Have a look at the relevant parts to you and decide which you'd like to play.
2. Complete this online form to register your interest in taking part (please complete this form by Monday 22nd February so that we have an idea of numbers).  If you don't end up finding the time to take part after completing the form, don't worry, it really doesn't matter - this is just to register your interest and to give us an idea of how many people might take part.  We need your email address so that we can send you a link in order to upload your finished recording.
3.  Download your sheet music from BBC Ten Pieces and practise your part.  There is a backing track to practise with (see below).  Watch out, the piece gradually speeds up throughout!
4.  When you are ready to record, record your part on a phone or tablet (see info below on exactly how to record)
5.  Upload your finished video to the google drive folder which we will email to you.  The deadline for submitting videos will be Monday 15th March (but if you submit it earlier, that's great!)
6.  Wait for us to do our magic and then publish the finished performance on youtube during the last week of term.  You can then share the finished performance with your family and friends.  What a fantastic lockdown achievement!

How to record:

1.  You will need one device to record a video and another device to play a backing track.
2.  Download this backing track to record to.  It includes a verbal count-in.  Please clap or stamp on beat 1 of the second count of 4 (this helps us to sync the videos).
3. Listen to the backing track on headphones.   If you can't do this, then please make sure the backing track is not playing out very loudly.  YOU MUST RECORD IN TIME WITH THE BACKING TRACK! Watch out - it gradually speeds up!
4.  Set up your recording device on a stand (it's less wobbly than getting someone to hold it!).
5.  Please record your video in LANDSCAPE (ie sideways).
6.  Make sure that you and your instrument can be seen in the video (we don't need to see your whole body though).  The bigger you are in the shot, the better.
7.  Before you record, please ensure that your instrument is IN TUNE with the backing track.
8.  If you go wrong in the performance, don't worry, just smile and come back in whenever you can.  If you can only play some of the piece, that's also fine, just smile for the rest of the piece (or mime!).
9.  At the end of the performance please smile at the camera for around 3 seconds before stopping the recording.
10.  Please upload your completed video to the google drive folder which you will have been emailed.
