The String family consists of the violin, viola, cello, double bass and harp.
The violin can be learnt from Year 1 onwards.  The viola, cello and double bass from Year 5 onwards.

The violin often plays classical and folk music and sometimes jazz.  The viola mostly plays classical music.  The cello usually plays classical music.  The double bass is often used in classical music and jazz.

If you learnt a string instrument, you would be able to join the First Schools' or Middle Schools' Orchestras.  As you progressed to The Thomas Hardye School, you would be able to join the THS Orchestra and THS String Ensemble.
