BSO Orchestral Workshop - Saturday 24th June 2017
Following on from the success of our BBC Concert Orchestra workshop last year, we are excited to announce that we have engaged the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestral to run a similar workshop for us this year.
Last year, we were lucky enough to receive the BBC workshop free-of-charge as part of the BBC Ten Pieces coaching scheme. This year, through fundraising and kind sponsorship from some very generous donors, we are able to offer a similar workshop to our students again, however this year there will need to be a small charge to help towards costs. Without sponsorship, the project would cost over £25 per person - we are able to offer it to our students for just £5 or £10.
Details of the workshop:
The workshop will run on Saturday 24th June 2017 at The Thomas Hardye School (6th form centre).
The main workshop will run from 10am - 4.30pm. This will be for students from grades 2 - 8+. They will be using the 'intermediate' or 'higher' level arrangements from the BBC Ten Pieces.
Those students who already play in the THS Orchestra, DASP Youth Orchestra, Flute Choir, Brass Ensemble, Stringendos and Clariphones will be prepping this music in their ensemble sessions. However, the workshop is also open to any students of the appropriate level, even if you don’t already play in a DASP ensemble.
From 2pm - 4.30pm, beginner students who currently play with Stringalings or Training Windband will join the workshop. They will be using the 'beginner' arrangements from the BBC Ten pieces.
The day will run as follows:
10am - Arrive
10.15 - 11.40am - Mid/Higher level workshop
11.40 - 12.00 - Break
12.00 - 13.00 - Sectionals
13.00 - 14.00 - Lunch
14.00 - 15.00 - Mid/Higher Level + Beginner orchestra separately
15.00 - 15.10 - Break
15.10 - 16.00 - Joint Orchestra
16.15 - 16.30 - Sharing to parents
The pieces that will be played are as follows:
Bach Toccata and Fugue
Wagner Ride of the Valkyries
Mussorgsky Night on Bare Mountain (beginners will only play this piece)
Please click on the links above to find copies of the scores that we will be using.
It is hoped that some of these pieces will then be performed at the DASP Summer Concert on 8th July at the Weymouth Pavilion and all who take part in the workshop will be invited to play on that day.
The cost of the workshop is £10 for Mid/Higher level players and £5 for beginner players. Payment will need to be made by BACS (Sort code: 600701/Acc: 39102998) or cheque (payable to DASP Music).
Places will be limited, so please do get your applications in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Once you have applied and we have received payment, we will send you a confirmation email.
Application deadline is Friday 12th May.
