The String family consists of the violin, viola, cello, double bass and harp.
The violin, viola and cello can be learnt from Year 2 onwards and the double bass from Year 5 onwards. The violin often plays classical and folk music and sometimes jazz. The viola mostly plays classical music. The cello usually plays classical music. The double bass is often used in classical music and jazz. Some people who play the double bass also play the bass guitar. If you learnt a string instrument, you would be able to join Stringalings, Stringendos and the DASP Youth Orchestra. As you progressed to The Thomas Hardye School, you would be able to join the THS Orchestra and THS String Ensemble. |
